Gotta say… been diggin’ the old school Fuel lately. Not that new ‘Angels & Devils’ shit with the “new” lead singer, it’s just not the same. Brett Scallions was Fuel.
When he left the band in Feb. ’06, the band claimed it was because Scallions had voice issues and lost some of it. Scallions said “For me, growing up and being a fan of music, being a fan of creativity, you wanna be a part of things, you wanna actually feel like you are in a band, and it just wasn’t feeling like that anymore.”
Voice and creativity is what makes this cover of Elton John’s “Daniel.” Notice that it’s just Brett Scallions and a guitar. Coincedence? Hardly… check this shit out!
… and yeah, Fuel’s first album, “Sunburn” reeks of awesomeness. Get your hands on it!
Robert Hamburger has a website called Real Ultimate Power that I had forgotten about until he awaked from his slumber and sent a mass email about his new book called “Ghosts/Aliens”
Check out this YouTube video to really understand what Robert is up to.
i wrote about alicia a while back when i was doing the “i am a wild party” blog, but i feel she deserves to be heard about again. go to her myspace and check out the song “how can i sing” and tell me it doesn’t hit you like a shit ton of bricks. and if you tell me it didn’t, you’re either lying, or you’re a cold heartless bastard/bitch.
In the mood for an overconfident rapper trying his hand at some serious R&B through the magic of voice boxes? Great! Consider Kanye West‘s new album in your wheelhouse…
Kanye’s usually rides that fine love/hate line… some enjoy the bold lyrics, others can’t stand his arrogance. Regardless, you gotta give him credit for his creativity. The guy experiments and often pushes the envelope with his words. But in a time, especially in hip hop, where creativity is sorely lacking (remember, hip hop was delcared “dead” a couple years ago), Kanye provides the beats, the drama and the freshness.
“808′s & Heartbreak” is some cool shit! The album is completely loaded with voice boxes, literally every song. Kanye busts out the vocals, with his rapping actually kept to a minimum. Young Jeezy and Lil’ Wayne provide some guest spots.
I’m sure by now, most of us have heard the “Love Lockdown” single. If not, you gotta have that song. His new single, “Heartless,” also a must-have. ”Amazing” (with Jeezy), “Welcome To Heartbreak” and “Bad News” are other cool tracks.
Bottom line… even if you’re a semi-Kanye fan, you should be checking this shit out!
